Redbird Country Mysteries
Something different, something fun. A little weirdness never hurt anyone.
Part of my interest in creating includes writing fiction. In my lyric writing, I came up with all kinds of scenarios filled with characters who were going through a hard time with breakups, taking stands in their lives romantically, with their bosses at work, or whatever else I could conjure up. It’s been a lot of fun, and while I’ll always write lyrics, I wanted to shift my efforts to different opportunities for myself.
I’ve attempted to come up with short stories in the past. It’s not easy, in fact, I’ve already surpassed the short story genre for my upcoming release, “The Psych Major.” It’s the story of a young college student, Patrick Michaels who attends ISU and majors in, you guessed it, Psychology. But not all decisions stay consistent and his decision to study Psychology was rash, so he understands what he really wants to do but also is just researching before he makes his final choice.
We all go through different pathways to figure out our true calling. That wasn’t different for me personally, and in developing this character, I know essentially, I am drawing from my earliest experiences and path in life. I wanted to sing professionally, but I didn’t want to necessarily work hard enough at it to pursue it as a career. I turned to writing lyrics and I’ve done so for many years, however, the pull was extremely strong to get into writing fiction.
The only way I really knew how to write with freedom is to do my research on writing. I didn’t want to major in Creative Writing but I did take classes at Cabrillo College as well as various classes at Full Sail, where I focused more on Screenwriting and Storytelling. Now, I’m primed to write stories I hope will entertain others.
Don’t get me wrong, I will still post my informational articles here, but I wanted to let you know that I will be experimenting with adding my stories to the podcast I had set up for this Substack site. This way, you can still see the information articles I write, plus listen to my Redbird Country Mysteries if you are interested.
All of this is for the fun of it - and I believe it’s what I’m meant to create. It’s made its way to the front of the line, given my circumstances and I will continue writing these stories now until the pull will take me into some newer adventures in creating.
