5 Fun Fall Activities To Do With Your Kids In Redbird Country
Get out of the house and go on an ADVENTURE!
When summer turns into fall and you’re hanging out with your kids, it can be hard to figure out what to do to keep them occupied. While the first instinct may be to turn on the television or buy another iPad game, there are plenty of fun things you can do during the fall months that will help your children develop physically and mentally as well as have some fun together as a family. With these ideas, you’ll never be at a loss for what to do in the Midwest during fall and you need some fun activities with your kids.
1) Go Hiking
Starved Rock Lodge and State Park is one of the most popular hiking destinations near Bloomington-Normal, IL. Nestled deep within the 2,200 acres of the National Park within Utica, IL, hikers can explore a variety of trails and enjoy stunning views. This activity is perfect for kids because it's not too strenuous, but still offers a lot of adventure.
If you're lucky, you might even see some of Illinois' native wildlife while on one of Starved Rock's hiking trails! The park is home to White-tail deer, wild turkey, red foxes, and raccoons.
2) Go to the Children's Discovery Museum
In Uptown Normal, Illinois, the Children's Discovery Museum has lots of fun activities for kids of all ages. The Museum is open year-round, but there are some seasonal events that happen during the fall and winter. 3) Go on a hayride
Hayrides are one of the most popular fall activities here in Redbird Country. At many farms, it's not just a hayride, but a chance to go on an adventure! You can find pumpkin patches and corn mazes, haunted houses, and more! A lot of hayrides are open until November, so you have plenty of time for adventures this season. There is also usually a snack or meal afterward.
4) Visit Rader Family Farms
Whether you live in Normal, IL, or not, Rader Family Farms is an excellent place for a family outing. There is so much to see and do, it will keep everyone entertained for hours. From the pumpkin patches to their unique food and market, there's always something new and exciting waiting for you there! Even if you don't get any pumpkins, there are so many fun activities for kids of all ages that it's worth the trip.
Incidentally, they have a hayride there so you can do two things from this list at once!
5) Open Skate at Bloomington Ice Center
For a cool way to have fun and get in shape, head to Open Skate at the Bloomington Ice Center! A wide variety of opportunities for skaters of all ages, skill levels, and interests are offered. Be sure to look for special themed nights offered during Open Skate. Skate Rental is available for a minimal fee. The ice rink is located on the south side of Bloomington. Hours vary by season.
